Can I be fired for refusing to do something that is not my job?

I was a waiter and we make $2.89 an hour, since opening we all have been asked to do stuff that is WAY beyond our job description, (plumbing, painting, demolition, electrical work, etc.). They asked me to do something that was very unsanitary and not my job, then wanted me to go back waiting tables without changing my cloths or showering I refused and they fired me. Do I have any legal recourse?
