Do you know the title of this picture book?

(or anywhere I might be able to find out). It was published in the '90s, and it was about a cat who could see sprites, or gremlins, who played tricks on him and then he got blamed for the hijinx, because the humans couldn't see the cat. The pictures had lots of '50s touches, like boomerang formica tabletops, etc. Thanks for any help. Oh, I think the cat's name (and maybe the book's) started with a Q?
