Did the WWE lie to us about The Chris Benoit murder suicide situation?

I don't think the wrestlers knew that Chris Benoit had murdered his son and his wife and then took his own life when the tribute show was on. Because the next night Vince had some kind of a press meeting and said that the WWE or any of the wrestlers would ever mention Benoit's name or have any of his pictures of him wrestling again....If I am remembering it right.
