I am atheist but very interested in how people form beliefs.?

I think 'fear of hell' makes up about 70% of a religious person's reason to believe in stuff that is without evidence. When I say 'fear of hell,' I'm using this to indicate the fear that people have of anything nasty for which no evidence exists. Virtually every religion has something nasty that it uses to scare children during the indoctrination process.
